Parent/guardian acknowledgement of the Homework Policy.
Homework assignments are an important part of every child's after-school day. Creative Kids' philosophy corresponds with that of the Los Angeles Unified School District, emphasizing that homework assigned by a child's classroom teacher is basically intended for review and/or drill of previously taught concepts and materials, as well as building pupil responsibility.
Adult responsibilities include guaranteeing children a suitable, quiet, distraction-free environment and answering any questions which might clarify the pupil assignment. Creative Kids personnel will help any child by meeting reasonable requests for assignments, but it is the pupil's responsibility to correctly complete homework, just as it is the classroom teacher's responsibility to evaluate and grade the assignment.
The amount of time needed for homework will vary according to grade level and achievement level of each child (1 hour Monday-Thursday). In some cases, work will have to be finished at home if your child cannot complete it during the allotted program homework time.
It is the child's responsibility to be honest about homework. Staff cannot make a child complete assignments and cannot search backpacks for incomplete work. Creative Kids is to provide assistance, to remind, and encourage, but not force a child to do homework.
If children do not complete their work in that time period, we must move on to scheduled activities.
At request from the child, the staff will assist children with homework by explaining directions, giving examples and checking completed work. If your child needs more help with homework, we will try to accommodate, but remember Creative Kids is not a one-on-one program. We do not provide tutoring assistance.
